The scientific term used for hair loss or baldness is alopecia. When you are referring to hair loss on the scalp the word becomes alopecia totalis. Similarly, hair loss over the entire body would be called alopecia universalis. The term for hair falling out in various patches is known as alopecia areata-which is normally a temporary condition that does not lead to baldness.
The primary physiological components of hair loss include your hormones, your age, and genetic heredity. However, the exact cause of hair loss is not know. Some ideas that have been postulated include the idea the body thinks the hair follicles are foreign to the body and begins attacking the follicles. The most widely believed idea is that heredity and genetics determine hair loss.
A very common form of hair loss that is not as severe is androgenetic alopecia (AGA), more commonly known as male pattern baldness. As you can see, the name defines this condition as hair loss caused by the genetic pre-disposition towards hair loss.
The cause of AGA, or male pattern baldness, is the presence of male sex hormones known as androgens. In men suffering from male pattern baldness, these androgens may bond with specific receptors in the hair follicles causing the hair follicle to slow or halt hair production.
Women can also experience this androgen related hair loss problem, although typically this doesn't happen until after menopause. As we know, as women get older they experience a degree of hair loss or thinning of the hair, this is even more true after menopause is reached. However, certain women may experience this reduction in hair vitality as soon as puberty is complete. Additionally, due to dramatic hormonal changes that stop hair production two to three weeks after pregnancy, most women experience some hair loss.
A certain species of microscopic mite, demodex follicularum, is thought to play a role in hair loss as well. The demodex follicularum mite can be found in almost all hair follicles of middle-aged people. Typically these mini mites are not a problem, but scientists have been led to theorize that the way the body responds to these mites may be the cause of hair loss. If the scalp has a negative reaction to the mites, the resulting inflammatory response could kill the mites and also the hair follicles, thus leading to baldness.
Some common hereditical factors of hair loss include severe illness, exposure to radiation, diabetes, thyroid problems, poor diet, skin disease, iron deficiency, chemical dyes, and vitamin deficiencies.
Recommendations
You should take essential fatty acids like flaxseed oil, salmon oil, and Kyolic EPA from Wakunaga. This will improve your hair's feeling and prevent drying of the hair. A diet rich in B, C, and E vitamins has also shown to improve the growth of hair.
